ज्योतिष में किसी कुंडली का सबसे अहम् स्थान है तो वह है लग्न l लग्न के जानने मात्र से हम उस व्यक्ति के बारें में कई बातें जान लेते है l वैसे तो लग्न की ज्योतिषीय परिभाषा है की किसी दिनांक विशेष, समय विशेष और स्थान विशेष पर पूर्वी क्षितिज पर में उदित राशी को लग्न कहते है l

एक सर्वमान्य नियम यह है कि ‘‘नाभुक्तं क्षीयते कर्म कोटिकल्पशतैरपि।’’ अर्थात् कोई भी कर्म करोड़ो कल्प बीतने पर भी बिना भोगे नाश को प्राप्त नहीं होता।
